This case study prepared by the Indian Institute of Management presents Nam Theun 2 (NT2) Hydroelectric project, which includes the development, construction, and operation of a 1,070 MW power plant. Nam Theun 2 is a cross-border Independent Power Producer (IPP) project following a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) structure between Thailand and Lao PDR. The majority of the electricity produced by NT2 is exported to Thailand from Lao PDR. The paper discusses the project’s background, concession agreements, financing scheme, and detailed economic and financial analysis.
