The report provides a detailed overview of regulatory and other initiatives pursued by the international community in an effort to combat piracy. The importance of strengthened cooperation at all levels - not only in respect of maritime security measures, but also in terms of information sharing, effective prosecution of pirates and of the beneficiaries of the proceeds of piracy - and of ongoing efforts to strengthen the legal and regulatory framework, particularly at the national level, is highlighted.
