The World Bank Group played a key role in supporting the revitalization of the Kenya-Uganda Railway, which would in turn deepen regional integration of transportation services and increase connectivity within East Africa. In addition to the $32 million financing and advisory services provided by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in 2006, the World Bank through International Development Association (IDA) also provided financial support for retrenchment and resettlement related to the project and partial risk guarantees on behalf of both the Kenyan and Ugandan governments. This was the first Partial Risk Guarantee provided for a transport project by the Bank.
